These specimens have confused collectors since they first came out in the early 1990s as calcite after something embedded in concretions, then glendonite after ikaite, then as calcite after ikaite; and now classified as calcite variety thinolite, which is a pseudomorph after an unknown mineral. This is a strange, biomorphic-looking pseudomorph from Russia. These big, sharp orange-brown pseudomorphed crystals measure up to 2.6 cm in length.
